Android

CueLab is only available for iOS devices, and there are currently no plans to make an Android version.

Why? First and foremost I built CueCam for myself, and I use iOS. Same reason it's tailored to Eos. It's the platform I use. Everyone I know who wanted to test it in the early days was also an iPhone user. Also, I've got no experience developing software for Android. So it just made sense.

Through time, it's become clearer that focussing on iOS makes sense;

Consistency

We test on iPhone 12 (the oldest iPhone that is supported), along with iPhone 15, 17 and a few models of iPad. The same software runs on all of them without issue and without quirks for specific models.

The iPhone hardware is consistent. The camera will be exactly what we expect, the screen dimensions are the same etc. The Android ecosystem is much more varied, with different notches, camera positions, screen resolutions etc. And supporting these consistently is difficult.

Apple-optimised Code

CueCam is not a simple app (like something that just views data or provides an interface to a web service) - we use SwiftUI and, significantly, Metal to handle real time video - these are Apple-specific and not available on Android. So it's not easy to port this app to run on another platform.

There's a good article here https://medium.com/@fahad.bdtask/ios-vs-android-development-in-2025-pros-cons-and-market-trends-you-need-to-know-8fac32781d94 which outlines many of the same things we've found but articulates it better!

Bottom line, CueCam is an app for iOS.

Since you probably don't want to be without your phone for an entire show or rehearsal anyway, you can pick up a second hand iPhone 12 pretty cheaply these days. Many people have a Windows box just for Eos, or a Mac just for QLab… it's not really any different.
